Ingredients in egg white wraps

If you wonder what’s in egg white wraps, stick around. In this section you are going to learn everything on the recipe ingredients, with plenty of details and replacement options. But now, without further ado, here’s everything you need to make tortillas with egg whites at home.

  • Oat flour. I prefer oat flour because it is healthier – unprocessed, high in fibers and rich in nutrients. As an alternative you can use wholewheat flour, spelt flour, regular all purpose flour, or almond flour for keto egg white wraps.
  • Egg whites. For convenience I normally use liquid egg whites that come in brick, but you can also separate whole eggs in whites and yolks (set the yolks aside for other recipes!).
  • Milk of choice. In this recipe, the addition of milk makes egg white wraps softer and more delicious. Any type of unsweetened milk can be utilized, dairy or dairy-free. For more protein and fewer carbs I recommend unsweetened soy milk or semi-skimmed cow milk.

Besides these 3 ingredients, you can level up your protein wraps by adding salt and any seasoning you like. I often make mine with smoked paprika, powdered onion and powdered garlic. So good!

Keto Egg White Wraps Recipe

Here is how to adapt this recipe and make low carb keto egg white wraps at home. I promise, it is very simple. All you should do is replacing oat flour with almond flour or sunflower seed flour. The result will be very similar, but the nutritional values will slightly vary. That’s because nut based flours are lower in carbs, higher in protein and fats.

You will love how quick and easy this recipe is. Prepare the batter, cook and you are ready to fill your homemade protein tortillas with all the foods you like. Here’s how to make wraps with egg whites, in 2 simple steps.

Mix the batter. In a bowl combine together flour, egg whites, milk of choice and, if desired, salt and additional seasonings. Whisk or blend the mixture very well, until all lumps have dissolved.

Cook wraps. Heat a medium non stick skillet or crepe pan with little oil or butter over medium heat. Scoop 1/3 batter over the pan and move the skillet in a circular form to spread it evenly. Storage information

Protein wraps with egg whites can be served right after making, or they can be stored for later. To preserve a great taste and soft texture, let cool before storing. Once they have cooled completely, place in an airtight food container or in zipper bags. I recommend storing them in individual layers, separating each wrap with parchment paper. In the fridge, they will last for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm them in a skillet or microwave.

How do you eat egg white wraps?

Homemade egg white wraps are just like regular wraps, but lower in carbs and higher in protein. This means that you can serve them stuffed with all the fillings you like, or enjoy on their own as an alternative to bread. From burritos to quesadillas, they are incredibly versatile and come in very handy for so many recipes.

These egg white tortillas are actually one of my latest lunch obsessions. I like filling mine with cream cheese, smoked salmon, avocado and cherry tomatoes. It’s such a great meal that satisfies me while nourishing my body. You should definitely give it a try!

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Can I use whole eggs?

These are low carb wraps with egg whites only, but you can also make them with a combination of 2 whole eggs plus 2 egg whites.

Can I replace flour with protein powder?

As they are not the same, I do not recommend substituting the flour with protein powder. The protein powder will make your tortillas quite dry.

Can I skip the milk?

Yes, you can replace milk with additional egg whites. Here I recommend combining egg whites and milk because this gives the wraps a softer texture.

Is this recipe gluten-free?

If you follow a gluten-free diet, make your egg white wraps with oat flour or almond flour. In both cases, double check that the flour does not contain any gluten.

What’s the nutritional values of egg white wraps?

Each homemade egg white tortilla provides about 80 calories: 9 grams of protein, 9 grams of carbs and 1.5 grams of fats. Keep in mind that those are estimations only, precise macros may slightly vary.
