Easy air fryer omelette recipe
Making omelette in an air fryer is a game-changer. It comes out as fluffy and delicious as the stovetop version, but without the fuss of baby-sitting the pan or cleaning everything. You only need to whisk eggs with your favorite seasonings, add mix-ins and then cook in the air fryer. In no more than 10 minutes you’ll get the perfect dish for a protein-packed breakfast, lunch or dinner.
There are two types of omelettes – French and American. While traditional French omelettes are more simple and rolled up, American omelettes are heartier with fillings folded inside such as ham, cheese and veggies. Actually, this version resembles more a frittata. It’s cooked in a single layer, requires no folding, and is packed with delicious fillings.

Ingredients
This easy air fryer omelette recipe requires just 2 main ingredients – eggs and seasonings of your choice. For more flavor you can add other mix-ins such as vegetables, ham and cheese. Here are some more details, the precise quantities can be found in the recipe card at the bottom.
- Eggs. Use large fresh eggs, preferably from free-range chickens. This recipe uses 3 whole eggs, but you can add less or more if desired.
- Seasonings. I like flavoring my beaten eggs with just sea salt and black pepper. Feel free to add other seasonings such as onion powder, garlic powder, chili flakes, dried herbs, or a touch of hot sauce.
- Mix-ins. This simple recipe includes chopped fresh spinach and diced tomatoes. Other delicious add-ins are mushrooms, diced ham, cheeses like shredded mozzarella or cubed Parmesan, bacon and leftover roasted veggies.
How to make omelette in air fryer
Step 1 – Prep. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch pan with olive oil or line it with parchment paper. As an alternative, you can use an 8-inch air fryer liner.
Step 2 – Mix. In a medium bowl, use a fork or hand whisk to beat the eggs with seasonings. Incorporate chopped spinach and diced tomatoes, making sure to remove any excess water from the vegetables. Too much moisture may prevent the inside of your omelette from cooking well.
Step 3 – Air fry. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Place in the air fryer and cook at 350°F (180°C) for 7-9 minutes. Make sure you do not overcook it; the omelette is ready when the inside is slightly set and no more raw. You can use either a knife or a toothpick to check for doneness.
Recipe variations
- Ham and cheese: Add diced ham and your favorite cheese such as shredded cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, or briny feta. A classic combo.
- Mushroom: Sautée some mushrooms and stir them into your beaten eggs. For more flavor, add some grated Parmesan.
- Roasted veggies: Use leftover roasted vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, or onions.
- Spicy kick: Add a touch of hot sauce, diced jalapeños, Italian peperoncino or a sprinkle of chili flakes for some heat.
- Air fryer egg white omelette: Replace the whole eggs with 4-5 egg whites for a lower-calorie, high-protein option. Keep in mind that although egg whites work, the omelette won’t be as rich and satisfying.
- More or fewer eggs: Adjust the number of eggs based on your portion size. For a thicker omelette use 4 eggs; for a thinner one, use 2.
Chef tips
- Use the right pan. First of all, use a pan that is neither too small nor too big to ensure even cooking. If it is too small the air fryer egg omelette will burn outside but remain uncooked inside; if it is too large it will get dry and tough. I used an 8-inch baking pan.
- Prevent sticking. Make sure you coat lightly the pan with olive oil or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper. Greasing is recommended also if you are using a non-stick pan.
- Do not overfill. If you add too many extras the eggs won’t cook evenly – the inside will remain raw while the outside will get overly crispy. When using vegetables I also recommend removing any excess liquid; it may add too much moisture and slow down cooking.
- Do not overcook. The omelette is ready when the center is firm and no longer jiggles; this should take approximately 8 minutes. Make sure you do not overcook it or it will burn and get tough.
Make ahead and storage
- To make ahead. Beat the eggs, season to taste and add your favorite mix-ins. After stirring the mixture, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or with a lid and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, air fry omelet as described in this recipe.
- To store from cooked. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 2-3 minutes, or quickly microwave.
- To freeze. For longer storage, freeze slices in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating in hot air fryer or in a microwave.
Serving ideas
Air fryer omelettes are already delicious on their own, but serving them with toppings and other foods will make your meal yet more satisfying. Here are some tasty ideas.
- Add toppings. Level up the dish with slices of creamy avocado, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, or ham. These toppings add healthy fats, extra protein, and lots of flavor to your eggs.
- Serve with vegetables. Pair it with air fryer Brussels sprouts, fire roasted tomatoes, a simple spinach salad, or a cucumber salad for extra vitamins and fiber.
- Add some carbs: Make it a complete meal with a side of baked sweet potato, protein bagels, and slices of oat bread, cottage cheese bread or protein bread.
- Breakfast classic: Serve with potato fritters, crispy hash browns, mashed potato pancakes or baked beans for a hearty start to the day.
- Mix and match: Pair your omelette with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, whipped cottage cheese, or a refreshing green smoothie for a sweet and savory breakfast or brunch.
Frequently asked questions
Set your air fryer to 350°F (180°C). This temperature ensures that the omelette cooks evenly without burning on the outside.
For extra fluffiness, whisk the eggs longer before adding any mix-ins – this incorporates more air. Additionally, avoid overcooking the omelette, as this can make it dry. Finally, choose the right pan size — too large pans can result in an omelette that’s overly crispy rather than soft and fluffy.
Yes, this recipe is healthy and nutritious. Made without oil and completely dairy-free, it’s a great protein-packed option for breakfast or any meal. Additionally, eggs provide essential nutrients such as vitamins A, D, and B12, as well as minerals like selenium and choline.
