I like, love, and live for cookies! In all shapes and forms, chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite dessert. But sometimes I’m too lazy to bake, while other times too tempted to eat the raw dough. That’s why I’m obsessed with these healthy no-bake cookie dough bites.

And I’m pretty sure you will love them too! These oat flour cookie dough balls are a great snack or dessert to enjoy whenever you want. With no guilt, because they are so healthy: sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free! What is more, they are ready in 5 minutes.

The ingredients

These healthy cookie dough bites come together in a bowl with just three main ingredients. Yes, you read it correctly: three very simple ingredients, plus some chocolate chips for the taste. And if you are now curious to learn more, here is everything you need to make edible cookie dough bites with oats.

  • Oat flour: use homemade or store-bought oat flour, gluten-free if it is necessary. As an alternative, you may also use almond flour, but the recipe may require some adaptations (more flour or more nut butter depending on the consistency of the dough). You also have the option to swap part of the oat flour with protein powder, keep on reading till the end to learn how!
  • Ripe banana: this recipe only works with ripe bananas, as they are sweeter and mash very well. On the contrary, unripe bananas won’t mash and your oat cookie balls won’t come out. As a replacement, you can use applesauce, pear sauce or any fruit sauce you like – as long as it has the same consistency of mashed bananas. 
  • Nut butter: pick and choose the nut butter you like the most – peanut, almond, cashew, hazelnut, or even pistachio butter! And for a nut free version, opt for tahini or sunflower seed butter.

But wait a second, those are healthy cookie dough bites, aren’t they?! Well, for cookie dough to be cookie dough, chocolate chips are a must! Personally, I am a huge fan of extra dark chocolate, that’s my top choice. But you are free to use any type of chocolate chips: extra dark, dark, milk or even white chocolate. Just keep in mind that the darker the chocolate is, the healthier. 

How to make oat flour at home?

Making oat flour at home is very quick and simple. All you need to do is adding rolled oats to a high speed blender and process until the oats have become flour. Depending on the power of your blender, this process may require a couple of minutes. The result should be a finely grounded powder, just like flour!

Making high protein cookie dough bites is incredibly simple. All you have to do is replacing 30 grams (or 1/3 cup) of the oat flour with protein powder – I don’t recommend substituting more than that. However, keep in mind that based on the type of protein powder used, your cookie dough may require some adaptations – either more oat flour or more nut butter.

Let me explain better. As a rule of thumb, vegan protein powder and casein absorb plenty of liquid. Hence, your recipe will probably require some more peanut butter or mashed banana. Conversely, whey protein powder tends to dissolve quite easily and get sticky. That’s why your dough may require some oat flour more.

To sum up, replace part of the oat flour with your favorite protein powder and adapts the recipe if it is necessary. Don’t stress too much ๐Ÿ˜‰

In a bowl, mash the ripe banana. When smooth, combine with oat flour, nut butter and chocolate chips. Mix the ingredients until you get a soft dough, first with a fork and then using your hands. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit of oat flour more, if it is too dry, adjust with more nut butter.

Shape some cookie dough balls from the mixture and decorate with chocolate chips. Serve directly or keep stored in the fridge for a maximum of 4 days.

After making, you can place the leftover cookie dough bites in a food container and refrigerate. In the fridge, they will last for up to four days – if you don’t eat them all in a day, as I did ๐Ÿ˜‰. For a longer storage, seal and freeze these no bake cookie dough bites for up to three months.
