If you are looking for a guilt-free dessert, go and make this healthy brownie in a mug. Ready in under 5 minutes, this single serve healthy brownie is the ultimate quick-fix dessert for your chocolate cravings!
Many people think that eating healthy is boring. But this should not be the case! With the right recipes, food can be both healthy and satisfying at the same time – as it should be. Just like this microwave brownie in a mug...It tastes so sinful that you’ll never guess it is also healthy, low calorie and high protein!
Ingredients
This healthy single serve brownie recipe requires just a handful of simple ingredients. There is no need for eggs, oil, butter or sugars…So that you can finally have a dessert without guilt, whenever you crave it!
Here is everything you need to make this healthy brownie in a mug.
- Greek yogurt: this recipe uses nonfat Greek yogurt, but you can also replace with full fat Greek Yogurt. For a vegan mug cake, use dairy-free Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt.
- Oat flour: use oat flour for a healthier brownie mug cake, or replace with any flour you like (such as all purposes flour).
- Granular sweetener: use a sugar-free sweetener (I use erythritol) for no extra calories. Or replace with coconut sugar or brown sugar.
- Cocoa powder: this brownie mug cake recipe uses natural cocoa powder, free from added sugars.
- Coffee powder: this is optional but highly recommended for more flavor.
- Baking powder: this makes your brownie mug cake rise.
- Preferred milk: you can make this recipe with dairy or dairy-free milk, as you prefer. For my single serve brownie I utilized soy milk.
- Chocolate chips: use dark chocolate, best if it is sugar-free.
Brownie mug cake with protein powder
Looking for a high protein dessert? Then you should make this healthy brownie mug cake with protein powder.
For a high protein chocolate treat, replace 15 grams (2 tbsp) of the oat flour with protein powder. I like making this recipe with vanilla or chocolate casein, but also vegan protein powder will work. On the contrary, I do not recommend whey protein powder because it will dry out and your brownie won’t come out as fudgy.
Vegan brownie in a mug
Making a dairy-free (and vegan) brownie in a mug is as simple as replacing Greek yogurt with a plant based alternative of your choice. Feel free to utilize your favorite nondairy yogurt, as long as it has a firm texture. Further, make sure you use nondairy milk and you’ll whip up a vegan fudgy brownie mug cake!
How to make healthy brownie in a mug
Making healthy brownie in a mug is embarrassingly easy. This “one-mug” recipe comes together in the microwave in under 5 minutes. Here’s how!
In a microwave-safe mug, mix together Greek yogurt, granular sweetener, cocoa powder, coffee powder and a pinch of salt. Stir until creamy.
Sift into the mixture the oat flour and baking powder, add the milk and mix to combine. Finally, top the brownie mug cake with chocolate chips.
Microwave on high for 1 minute to 1 minute and 30 seconds. As an alternative you can also bake it in hot oven at 180°C (350°F) for around 10 minutes. Serve warm and enjoy!
Brownie mug cake in the oven
If you don’t have a microwave or prefer not to use it, this healthy brownie mug cake can also be made in the oven. To make oven-baked brownie, all you have to do is baking the dessert at 180ºC (360ºF) for around 10 minutes.

Absolutely delicious!! I make this almost every night when I get the late night munchies and it’s perfect. I cook mine for about 1:15-1:30 and top it with whipped cream or cool whip (sometimes halo top ice cream ?) I use protein powder in mine so I can get my protein in while keeping it low cal. Highly recommend!
