Salmon bites, broccoli, zucchini fries, veggie nuggets and now even air fry tortilla chips. This machine comes in handy for so many recipes.

This is hands down one of my favorite recipes. Here at home we make air fry corn tortilla chips once or twice per week – Mexican food is our favorite. They are crispy and delicious like the ones you buy, but have a fraction of the ingredients and calories. Because they aren’t deep fried! These easy tortilla chips are made in the basket of your air fryer in 5 minutes, with just 3 ingredients.

Air fryer chips are addictive. Have one and you won’t be able to stop! They taste delicious on their own, or served alongside dips and sauces. Great for appetizers, parties and healthy snacking.

The ingredients you’ll need

This tortilla chips air fryer recipe only requires 3 simple ingredients: tortilla wraps, olive oil and salt. Read further, because in the following list you’ll find plenty of details and tips.

  • Tortilla wraps. I recommend yellow corn tortillas, the ones you need for tacos. They have a better flavor and get crispier when air fried. But you can also air fry flour tortilla chips, if preferred. Both corn and flour tortillas are okay.
  • Olive oil. A little oil makes homemade air fryer tortilla chips crispy and flavorsome as if they were deep fried, but healthier. I like olive oil, but you can use any other oil such as avocado oil or canola oil.
  • Sea salt. The basic recipe for tortilla chips only uses a hint of salt. Trust me, it’s enough to make them addictive.

This 3 ingredient tortilla chip recipe can be further customized to match your own preferences. From wrap choice to seasonings, the possibilities are endless. Have fun experimenting with the variations down here!

  • Replace corn tortillas with flour tortillas, or use protein wraps and make protein chips.

How to make tortillas in air fryer?

Making tortilla chips in air fryer is very simple. Gather some tortillas, brush with oil and sprinkle with salt. You can cut them in bigger or smaller triangles, depending on your preferences. Just make sure you air fry chips until they are nicely crispy on both sides. Here are some more details:

  • Prepare the chips. Brush corn tortillas with olive oil and sprinkle with salt on both sides. Cut your wraps into stripes, then cut each stripe into triangles.
  • Cook tortilla chips in air fryer. Transfer the triangles to your air fryer basket on a single layer, so that they do not overlap. Air fry tortilla chips for 3 minutes at 350°F (180°C), then flip and cook on the other side for 2-3 minutes. Serve warm with your favorite dips and sauces.

  • The best air fryer tortilla chips are made from high quality corn tortillas, like the ones you use for tacos. Those are the ones with the best taste and texture.
  • I recommend customizing your air-fry corn chips with additional seasonings such as smoked paprika, garlic powder, or even ranch seasoning.
  • You can cut the tortilla wedges with a sharp knife or a pizza cutter. This will make the preparation much easier and quicker!
  • Be sure to adjust the cooking time to your own needs, until the chips are golden and crispy, but not burnt. Different air fryers have different powers, and some may require preheating the machine before cooking.
  • Air fry in batches, if they do not fit all in the basket of your air fryer. This way each batch will cook evenly.
  • Enjoy air fry tortillas when they are still warm, paired with a bowl of your favorite dipping sauce or salsa. This is when they have the perfect crispy texture we all want.

Air fried corn tortillas are perfect for many occasions. They are amazingly as a salty snack, for parties with friends, or finger-licking appetizers. My girlfriend and I love them with pico de Gallo, homemade salsa and guacamole. Drizzled with lemon juice, nothing can beat homemade guacamole with corn chips.

How do you store homemade tortilla chips?

To store air fry tortilla chips made at home, you should first let them cool completely. Once they are cool, place them to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Keep stored in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Do not refrigerate, as in the fridge they would get soft.

Storage tip. If you are storing corn chips in a food container, line them in individual layers separated with paper towel. This will keep them crispier for longer.

What is the best tortilla to use for air frying? 

I use and recommend small yellow corn tortillas, similar to the ones for tacos. They have a crispier texture and more taste than flour tortillas.

Can I make air fryer tortilla chips with no oil?

Yes, you can also make your chips without oil but I do not recommend it. They won’t be as crispy and delicious as the regular.

How do you keep tortillas from flying in an air fryer?

Stack them neatly in a single layer without overcrowding the basket. You can also place a light-weighted ramekin or oven-safe dish on top of them, so that they won’t move excessively.
