FAQ – Keto Nutella recipe
How can I replace hazelnut butter?
This recipe uses natural 100% hazelnut butter to give this low calorie chocolate spread the original Nutella taste. As an alternative you can also prepare your own hazelnut butter at home – just process roasted hazelnuts in a blender until creamy.
But if you still do not have hazelnut butter, you can prepare this healthy Nutella recipe with the nut butter that is more readily available to you. My recommendations for you are almond butter or cashew butter because they are a more delicate taste than peanut butter. Although I do not suggest making this keto Nutella recipe with peanut butter, you can still use it but the taste won’t be the same.
Which sweetener of choice should I use?
To keep my healthy Nutella recipe sugar-free and keto I used erythritol. As an alternative you can utilize xylitol or stevia, but make sure you reduce the quantity of sweetener in the recipe if you go for stevia because it has a sweetener taste.
You can also make this healthy chocolate spread recipe with your favorite sweetener, such as coconut sugar, brown sugar, monk fruit sugar, maple syrup or honey.
Which milk for keto Nutella?
For this recipe I used unsweetened soy milk to keep it dairy-free, vegan and to add some more protein. As an alternative you can utilize your favorite plant based milk – such as almond, cashew, pistachio, walnut and oat milk – or dairy milk – also lactose free.
How to make high protein Nutella
If you want to make this keto Nutella recipe also higher in protein by replacing part of the cocoa powder with protein powder. For a high protein Nutella recipe, use 25 grams (1/4 cup) cocoa powder and 15 grams (2 tbsp) of your favorite protein powder – chocolate flavored or unflavored. However, based on the protein powder that you use you will need to adapt with more milk (or more protein powder/ cocoa) to get a creamy Nutella texture.
Healthy Nutella – serving ideas
This low calorie Nutella recipe is just like the original Nutella, but a way healthier. For this reason you can use this chocolate hazelnut spread just as if it were Nutella: in a sandwich, over pancakes, with your yogurt bowls or as a topping for your oatmeals. And if you follow a low carb diet, I recommend trying this keto Nutella spread with my low carb protein pancakes or with my keto zucchini brownies!
