Make your favorite peanut snack at home with this easy Honey Roasted Peanuts recipe. Sweet and salty, these homemade roasted nuts are healthier than the ones you buy. But be careful, they’re addictive!
As a kid, I was obsessed with the UK. My dream of visiting London came true in December 2014, when I took a trip with my dad. Out of all the good memories, two things remain vivid in my mind. First, the stunning view of the London Bridge. Second, the tantalizing smell of honey roasted peanuts walking down Westminster.
I had to get them, and get them soon. Dad agreed, he also wanted some. So we bought a serving each and continued our sightseeing snacking on honeyed peanuts. They were so good, so good that we ended up eating them for 4 days in a row.
Craving their taste (and smell), last week I decided to roast some nuts at home. But my own way, easy and with wholesome ingredients. Here’s how this healthy honey roasted peanuts recipe was born. The most delicious and addictive snack ever!
What are honey roasted peanuts made of?
Whether you wonder if honey-roasted peanuts are healthy or you just want a tasty snack, this recipe is for you. My glazed nuts are easy to make and healthier than the ones you buy. Much lower in sugar. Here’s the complete ingredient list alongside details and replacements.
- Peanuts. I recommend raw unsalted nuts, we are going to add salt and roast them later. If you only have salted dry roasted peanuts, use these. But reduce the amount of salt to your own likings, or don’t use any at all.
- Honey. In this recipe, honey is a must. I prefer using pure honey, the real thing, but you can replace with sugar-free syrup for a keto snack.
- Butter. The butter is melted with two tablespoons honey to glaze peanuts. This recipe can be prepared with regular butter or with nondairy butter, if you following a diary-free vegan diet.
- Coconut sugar. A secret to make honey roasted peanuts healthy is substituting white sugar with coconut sugar, which is unprocessed and ore nutritious. You are completely free to use brown sugar, cane sugar or regular sugar. For keto nuts, choose sugar-free sweetener.
- Salt. This recipe uses regular sea salt, key for a sweet and salty flavor. You can replace with low sodium salt or with a combination of salt and kosher salt.
Five simple ingredients only, no need for more. Your roasted peanuts with honey will come out so delicious. But if you’re looking for something more, then I recommend sprinkling in additional spices such as cayenne pepper for a spicy kick, or ground cinnamon for the sweet tooth.
How to make honey roasted peanuts?
- Start by heating butter and honey together, either in the microwave or on the stove using a saucepan.
- In a large mixing bowl, add peanuts, 1 tablespoon of sugar and part of the salt. Keep the remaining sugar and salt for later, we’re gonna need it to finish off the snack. Once it is hot, pour the butter honey mixture onto peanuts and give it a good stir.
- Transfer over a prepared baking sheet, spreading the nuts in a single layer so that they do not overlap. Bake in hot oven for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring frequently. Give a first stir after 5 minutes, then stir every couple of minutes.
- After baking, place peanuts in a bowl, then sprinkle in the remaining coconut sugar and salt. Mix well, then let cool for at least 5 minutes.
Can I roast peanuts in the air fryer?
Yes, this easy recipe can also be made in the air fryer. It’s going to be even quicker. To make air fryer honey roasted peanuts, follow the same directions aside from cooking method. Once you’re ready to roast, place your glazed nuts into the basket and air fry for 6 to 12 minutes at 320°F (160°F). Make sure you give a couple of shakes while roasting, so they won’t burn. The peanuts are ready when golden brown. Note than you may need to preheat the air fryer if it is necessary, this depends on brand.
