If you are looking for new dairy-free milks, this banana flavored milk recipe is for you. Made with just one banana and a cup of your favorite milk, it is quick, easy and so versatile. Just like any other milk, but healthier and homemade.

What is banana milk?

Banana milk is a simple banana flavored milk drink, made by blending banana and milk together. The recipe originates from South Korea, where Koreans enjoy it as a healthy and refreshing sweet drink.

But it is a popular recipe not just in Korea, because people all around the world like it. There are many reasons why banana milk is so famous. Besides its naturally sweet flavor and refreshing taste, this beverage is also incredibly healthy and so easy to make. In Korea, it is traditionally prepared with bananas, whole milk, maple syrup and vanilla extract. But I like making it simpler, with just 2 ingredients.

What is Korean banana milk made of?

This Korean banana milk recipe is so easy that it only requires 2 ingredients: banana and milk. Although very simple, there are a couple of details that you should keep in mind. Here’s something more about the ingredients:

  • Banana. The best banana milk drink is made from frozen ripe bananas, they give a sweeter and more delicious taste. If you don’t have frozen bananas, I recommend blending in a handful of ice cubes (in addition to one fresh banana).
  • Milk of choice. This recipe can be prepared with any type of milk, I like unsweetened almond milk. My recommendations are banana almond milk, banana soy milk and banana oat milk. You can also use dairy milk, whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed.

Besides banana and milk, you can blend in additional ingredients. For a sweeter drink, I recommend adding about one tablespoon of pure maple syrup or honey – especially if you are making Korean milk for kids. Or blend in a scoop of your favorite protein powder, it is going to be very similar to a protein shake. Perfect as a post workout!

How to make banana milk at home

When I say that this recipe is easy, I mean it. Making Korean banana milk at home is as quick and simple as blending all the ingredients until smooth. This shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes of your day, cleaning included.

  1. Place sliced banana and milk into a food processor or blender and process until smooth. You can also blend in additional ingredients such as maple syrup for a sweeter beverage, or protein powder for a refreshing post workout.
  2. Serve banana milk immediately, or keep stored in the fridge for a maximum of 2 days. If you store it, give it a good shake before serving to restore the original creamy texture.

Recipe tips

  • Use one frozen ripe bananas, cut into slices for easier blending. First, ripe bananas taste sweeter and more delicious. Second, they blend better and give a smoother, creamier texture. Especially if they are frozen.
  • Choose the milk you like the most, dairy or dairy-free. If almond milk is lower in calories and carbs, oat milk and whole milk will make your drink creamier.
  • Customize your banana milk drink by adding some extras such as maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or protein powder.
  • Blend in a handful of ice cubes, in case that the banana is not frozen. The ice will make your beverage more refreshing and creamier.
  • Serve it right after blending, when the beverage is at its freshest and creamiest. Try not to store it for too long in the fridge, or it will lose taste and freshness.

Can I store banana milk?

Although I recommend drinking it right away, you can store homemade banana milk in the fridge. After making it, pour the beverage into a glass bottle and seal with a lid. Refrigerated, it will last for up to 2 days. Before serving, remove from the refrigerator and give a good shake to restore its creaminess.

Is banana milk healthy?

Yes, homemade banana milk can be considered as a healthy and nutritious beverage. Bananas are a great source of potassium and vitamin B6, while milk contains minerals and vitamins. The specific nutrients will depend on the type of milk you use, however.

How does banana milk taste like?

Banana milk has a sweet and creamy flavor with a delicious banana taste. It’s a smooth and refreshing drink that combines the richness of milk with the natural sweetness of ripe bananas.

Can I add protein powder?

Yes, you can blend in your milk a scoop of protein powder. It is going to be very similar to a protein shake, but simpler. I like making mine with a scoop of vanilla whey protein.

Can I make banana milk with water?

Yes, instead of blending the banana with milk you can use cold water. But I do not recommend it, it won’t be as rich and creamy as the one made from milk.
