Strawberry oatmeal bars, frozen yogurt, and even banana strawberry bread, we have plenty of recipes featuring this fruit. But one was missing, the recipe for milk with strawberries.

As a kid, my all-time favorite dessert was strawberries with whipped cream and chocolate curls on top. I would have bowls and bowls of that thing, it was so fresh and fruity. Knowing my weakness, one day my grandma came back from the grocery store with a surprise. Nesquik strawberry milk. You know the powdered strawberry milk from Nestle, exactly that one. So I quickly mixed milk and strawberries powder and ended up sipping liters of strawberry milk straw after straw.

Many years have passed, many things have changed, and now I care more about my nutrition. But my love for that flavored milk remained a constant. Looking for ways to satisfy my cravings – and survive the summer heat, I came up with this healthy strawberry milk recipe. I love it, you will love it, and your kids will love it too. Here’s why!

  • It’s quick and easy to make, it only requires 3 main ingredients and 10 minutes of your day.
  • This homemade flavored milk is smooth and creamy, with a fruity taste it’s the perfect refreshing drink on a hot summer day.
  • My recipe is healthy and nutritious, packing all the benefits of berries and milk in a low calorie drink. Further, you won’t find artificial flavorings, sweeteners and food colorings like red 40 here.
  • Whether it’s dairy or strawberry almond milk, this is a versatile drink that you can enjoy cold or warm. You and your kids will want it everyday.

What is strawberry milk made of?

This is a simple recipe with just three main ingredients. You’ll need fresh or frozen strawberries and milk, plus a bit of granulated sugar. Read further to learn all tips, details and substitutes.

  • Strawberries. You can use either fresh or frozen strawberries, depending on what’s available. Although fresh berries have more flavor, both options will work. In case you are using frozen strawberries, let them thaw in the refrigerator in advance.
  • Milk of choice. This drink can be made with either dairy or non dairy milk. My recommendations are whole milk, oat milk, unsweetened almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk and soy milk.
  • Granulated sweetener. You will need a couple tablespoons of granulated sweetener to make the strawberry syrup for milk. Any sweetener can be used, sugar, cane sugar, coconut sugar or sugar-free keto alternatives. Honey and maple syrup will also work.

How to make strawberry milk at home?

  1. Prepare the strawberries. Wash the fruit, remove the green stems and chop in dices. Place in a bowl and set aside for later. If you are using frozen strawberries, thaw them in the fridge ahead of time.
  2. Make strawberry syrup. Add the chopped strawberries to a pot together with sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from burning.
  3. Assemble strawberry milk drink. With the help of a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a small bowl. Discard the pieces of fruit. Let the syrup cool for about 5 minutes, then pour it into the milk. Whisk well until smooth before serving. You can enjoy it cold, or microwave for 30-40 seconds and drink it warm.

Storage directions

You can store home made strawberry milk in the fridge. After making it, pour the drink into a glass bottle and seal with a lid. Refrigerated, it will last for up to 3 days. Before serving, remove from the refrigerator and give a good shake to restore its creaminess. You can drink it cold from the fridge, or reheat in the microwave for a warm treat.

Success tips

  • Make Korean strawberry milk by stirring in the drink both syrup and small pieces of strawberries. Finish off with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
  • Customize this recipe to your own preferences. Whether dairy or dairy-free, vegan or lactose free strawberry milk, you can even make it sugar-free.
  • Adjust the sweetness level to your likings. I personally find that 3 tablespoons of sweetener are enough, but you may need more.
  • Use leftover strawberry syrup as a topping for oat flour pancakes, waffles, or homemade ice cream.
  • Serve cold or warm, many people appreciate the coziness of a hot strawberry milk.
