If you aren’t roasting almonds at home, this is your sign. It’s so quick and easy, plus it’s healthier and cheaper than buying them from the grocery store. Here at home we usually toast almonds in bulk at the beginning of each month, so that we have enough for our snacks and breakfasts. Together with my honey roasted peanuts, they are a home favorite. And I’m sure you will love them too!
The roasting process enhances all the flavor and crunchiness of nuts, making them yet more delicious and satisfying. But they will still remain healthy, especially when prepared without added oil or salt.

Recipe ingredients
Surprise surprise, this roasted badam recipe only requires almonds – badam is just another name for almond kernel. You can use whole, sliced or silvered raw almonds, they are all great but will require different roasting times.
My simple recipe leaves plenty of room for customization. You can add salt, seasonings, cinnamon or roast almonds with olive oil. The choice is up to your own preferences, so feel free to experiment.
How do you roast almonds at home?
Here is how to roast badam in 4 different ways: in the oven, in an air fryer, on the stove or in the microwave. One important thing to keep in mind is that toasting time may vary, based on the shape of your nuts. The directions provided down below refer to whole almonds. Sliced or silvered nuts will take about 5 minutes less.
- Oven roasted almonds. Spread the nuts onto a baking sheet, in a single layer, and bake in hot oven at 320°F (160°C) for about 15 minutes, stirring a couple of times while they are roasting.
- Roasted almonds in air fryer. Place into the basket of your air fryer and cook at 320°F (160°C) for about 8-10 minutes, shaking a couple of times halfway through.
- Stovetop roasted nuts. Grease and preheat over medium-high heat a large nonstick skillet. When hot, toast the nuts in a pan for about 5 minutes, stirring regularly so that they do not burn.
- Microwave roasted almonds. Layer over a microwave-safe plate and roast almonds in the microwave in 1 minute steps, until they are done.
Storage tips
You can prepare dry roasted almonds in bulk and store them for later, they maintain their taste and texture very well. After toasting, allow to cool completely to room temperature. Once they have cooled, transfer to an airtight container and seal with a lid. At room temperature in the pantry, they will last for up to 3 months. For a longer storage, seal well and refrigerate for up to 5 months.
Different ways to make roasted almond nuts
As mentioned before, this simple recipe can be further customized with the addition of spices, seasonings, olive oil or honey. There are plenty of ways how you can toast almonds at home. Here are some of my favorites:
- Olive oil roasted almonds. Toss your nuts with half a tablespoon of olive oil for a crunchier texture and more flavor. You can also replace olive oil with another type of oil or with butter.
- Salted almonds roasted. Sprinkle some sea salt on top of olive oil coated almonds and you’ll get the perfect savory snack or salad topper.
- Flavored almonds. Enhance the flavors by adding spices and seasonings such as tamari, rosemary, garlic, or make lemon coated almonds.
- Sweet roasted almonds. There are many ways how you can roast raw almonds into a delicious healthy dessert. The most popular are honey roasted almonds, baked cinnamon almonds with sugar (similar to the German roasted almonds), and chocolate or cocoa roasted almonds.
More easy healthy snacks
Yes, this recipe is freezer friendly. To freeze roasted almonds, you’ll first need to let them cool to room temperature. After they have cooled, place in sealable zipper bags and freeze for up to 6 months.
Precise toasting time depends on many factors, such as preparation method (oven, air fryer, stovetop, microwave) and type of almonds used (whole vs sliced). In the oven, they usually take about 15 minutes. You can tell that roasted almonds are ready when they turn golden brown and become fragrant. Just be careful not to burn them!
Homemade roasted almonds are the perfect healthy snack, alone, in a trail mix or served with fruit and Greek yogurt. They are also great for breakfast bowls on top of yogurts, smoothies or oatmeal. You may even add some to your salads, they will add the perfect crunchiness and lots of health benefits.
Yes, definitely! First of all, this roasted badam recipe uses no oil or salt, making it a healthier alternative to the ones you buy. Second, nuts are a nutritious food rich in healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. But consume in moderation, as they are high in calories.
