The story behind MattsfitChef

Ciao, my name is Matteo. I’m 100% made in Italy. Yeah, just like pizza. I was born and raised in Norther Italy, but I’ve been living abroad since I graduated from high school. For more than 5 years now.

My passion for cooking and eating dates back to my birth, probably. I am a foodie inside. Already at a very young age, I would beg my grandma to make cake with me so that I could bake along. I loved licking the bowl as I now every morning do with my bowl of oats.

This wasn’t much of a problem until my innocent passion for food got compromised by fast food, cookies and sugars. At the age of 10, my unhealthy diet paired with a sedentary lifestyle led to massive weight gain and obesity.

I disliked myself, I disliked how I looked, I disliked how my weight limited my daily life. I just wanted to buy normal clothes, as teenagers do. Oh, and the bullying…

2014 and the move

That couldn’t go on any longer! So I decided to take control of my life, and at the age of 14 my health journey began.

I started eating better, exercising regularly, and drinking more water. Results were quick to come. Too quick, so that besides losing more than 70 lb (30 kg) in just 3 months, I also lost control over the situation.

It took me years and years to make peace with food again, but eventually I made it. I slowly came to realize that eating healthy doesn’t mean restricting yourself. It doesn’t mean eating boiled chicken breast and plain salad every day as I did for years. It’s not just about following a diet, it’s about approaching a more holistic approach. It’s a LIFESTYLE.

Over the years I have learnt a lot. A lot about healthy cooking, nutrition, fitness, and myself. I’ve learnt a lot from my own experience, mistakes, and studies. Oh, and my experiments in the kitchen of course!!!

I found my life purpose:
Inspiring people to eat healthy in an easy, affordable and satisfying way!

Looking back now, I am both proud of and also grateful for my journey. Navigating the ups and downs, my journey gave me a life purpose, and a passion for food and health. Burning passion that led me fund my blog Mattsfitchef.

Becoming a nutrition coach

Going from severely overweight to restrictive eating behaviors, over the years I have experienced all sides of the spectrum. This journey inspired me to create this blog and ignited my passion for health and nutrition. Tired of fad diets and questionable health claims, I started learning more about nutrition. But soon, I realized that to truly make a difference and help others improve their lifestyles, I needed formal academic training. This lead me to pursue an intensive course in nutrition, pass the final exam, and earn the certification as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Health Coach (Precision Nutrition Level 1).
