  • 1 kg (2.2 pounds) russet potatoes or any starchy potato
  • 1 ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ to ¾ tsp onion powder optional
  • ½ tsp salt or to taste
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • cooking spray

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the potatoes. Transfer the potatoes to a large pot and cover with cold water, then turn on the heat and cook for about 6 minutes. After cooking, drain and let cool at room temperature.
  • Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for a few minutes.
  • Using a grater or a food processor with a grating attachment, shred the potatoes. For crispy air fryer tater tots, place the shredded potatoes in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out any excess moisture.
  • In a large bowl, combine the shredded potatoes with flour, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the potatoes are evenly coated with seasonings.
  • Take a small handful of the potato mixture and shape it into a tater tot. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  • Place the tater tots in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer, without overcrowding the basket. If it is necessary, air fry in batches.
  • Spray the healthy tater tots with olive oil or cooking spray and cook in hot air fryer for 10-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
  • Once the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, remove from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce.
